一年間の恵み

この写真は、中の島で行われたクリスマスの様子です。
フルートの演奏は雰囲気を盛り上げ、恒例となったフラも披露されました。
今年も家族のようで、楽しい時が過ごせました。

しかし、クリスマスの主役は、サンタクロースでも、ツリーでも、プレゼントでもありません。
それは、全人類のために救い主が赤ちゃんとなって、地上に来てくださったことです。
メリーは喜ばしい、クリスマスはキリストの礼拝という意味です。

早いもので、２００９年も過ぎ去ろうとしています。
今年も、数え切れないほどの神の祝福がありました。
ある時は喜び、ある時は慰め、そして、ある時は奇跡の御業が。

人生の中で、後ろを振り返っても良い時があります。
それは、一年間の歩みの中で、恵み深い神様がどんな足あとを残してくれたのかを確認する時です。

わがたましいよ。主をほめたたえよ。
主の良くしてくださったことを何一つ忘れるな。

神戸の楽しいクリスマス

神戸・六甲アイランドにある家の教会のクリスマスに参加しました。

この教会の特徴は、よく喋り・よく食べて・よく祈ること、にあります。

この日は、午前が礼拝で、昼食をはさんだ後にクリスマスに突入（？）しました。
中国の方も多数参加して、本場の手作り中華は、さすが！でした。
日本の教会にありがちな、「この日を伝道の機会にしなければ」的な雰囲気は全くなく、大勢の家族・友人・知人が集まり、本当のクリスマスを楽しむ素晴らしい時となりました。
鉄人２８号（むかしのアニメ）の本場だけあって、一発芸も飛び出し、拍手・喝采が湧き上がりました。

初めての方も「とても良かった・本当に家族のようで・この教会に来てみたい」と感想を口にしていました。

イエス様がこの地上に赤ちゃんとして誕生された時は、どうだったのでしょうか。
今の日本とは、環境も状況も異なっていましたが、すばらしい喜びの知らせだったことは変わらなかったのです。

神戸の大切な友人たち

写真は、神戸でお会いした塚本さん親子と辰巳玲子さんです。

塚本さん親子は教会クリスマスのリハーサル後、玲子さんはコンサート後と、お疲れのところ、洋食レストランで夕食の時間をとってくれました。

塚本さんは、ＦＧＢＭＦＩ（フルゴスペルビジネスマンフェローシップ）日本の会長です。
日本のクリスチャンは、このような役職につくと「らしく」振舞うものですが、彼は至って自然体で誠実な人柄です。
この日もラグビー部に所属する高校生の息子さんに負けじと、食べ放題のパンを頬張りました。
また、海外のキリスト者からもとても愛されています。

玲子さんは、多彩な方で、コンサート活動やオリジナルＣＤ製作に加え、ドリーム・ステップでフルートやパソコンを教えています。


イエス様が中心におられ、友人の笑顔があれば、そこがどのような場所であっても、キリスト者にとっては至福の時となるのです。

テディベアの秘密

神戸の六甲アイランドでドイツ・シュタイフ社のぬいぐるみが展示されていました。
なぜ、テディベアが世代と国境を越えて、これ程までに人々を虜にするのか、その秘密を発見しました。

１８４７年生まれのマルガレーテ・シュタイフは、1歳半の時に小児麻痺を患い、生涯車いすが必要となります。
１８７７年には、フェルト店の創業者となり、姉妹とともにビジネスを始めます。
１８８０年、プレゼントのために作ったぞうの針刺しが大人気となり、シュタイフ社を設立。
１９０３年、アメリカのルーズベルト大統領の晩餐会に、くまのぬいぐるみが展示されて「テディベア」と呼ばれ、大ブームが起こります。


両足と右腕が不自由だった彼女が、手足が動くくまのぬいぐるみを作ったその思いは、以下の言葉に秘められています。


「話し掛けて、頬を寄せて、抱きしめて・・・うれしい時も寂しい時も、ぬいぐるみは子供のハートの一番近くにあるおもちゃ。だからこそ、最良のものを与えてあげたい。」


彼女のこのような思いが、人の心に愛のぬくもりを与えてくれるのです。

Things left behind in Chura umi

I went to Okinawa in November and it was the second time for me. I stayed there only for 1 night but the weather and blue ocean were impressive for me, who were born and raised in Sapporo.
There is a world-class aquarium, “Chura umi”, in Okinawa. Especially, whale sharks and mantas in a huge tank are spectacular. I found a cell phone in front of the biggest water tank, so I handed it over to the staff. Despite a weekday, it was so crowded and everyone absorb in the marine-life so they didn’t notice the cell phone. While I was watching the aquarium, a thought came to my mind. People are watching the marine-life, but don’t they notice there is no intermediate species over the course of evolution? We think we are watching, but we lose the important thing in front of us. If we don’t understand the forest although we watch trees, we get lost. God’s word guides our life to the certain thing.
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Lifesaver

Ross Yamauchi came to Japan from Hope Chapel Kaneohe, Hawaii. At first, he lived in Hakodate city and shared the gospel while he was teaching English. As a result, some people got baptized in 1990. One of them is Izumi who became my wife 6 years later. She is necessary for overseas mission at our church. That means, Ross is a lifesaver for Izumi and Church on the Rock. Christian’s mission can make a fruit in the point of being invisible. Although many people don’t notice in this world, God sees everything. Ross planted a church, Hope Chapel West in Tanashi, Tokyo. People whose lives were changed by God assemble to worship Jesus.

Crazy? Christian

Jarred and Sarah Briant are working at Global Youth Net to evangelize young people and make disciples. Jarred is an official crazy Christian. His pastor told him not to tell “You are a sinner.” when he evangelizes people. However, he evangelized many young people in Japan despite the pastor’s warning. Also, he is checking TV, what appeals to the young in Japan. Jarred and Sarah are not just crazy Christians. They sold their big house and dedicated their lives to their ministry. Many young people’s life will be changed through their ministry.

Be filled with comfort

We had a flute concert of Reiko Tatsumi from Kobe city at our church on 4th of July, 2009. Audience was relieved to hear quiet and warm-hearted tone of flute. She shared some testimonies between songs. When she was young, she sent her parents to heaven. She published CD because, she promised it with her father, who had a last stage cancer. Lastly, she said this CD is for people who spend a restless night.
God gives comfort to people who spend a restless night.
In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.

Faceless brave men

This photo is pastors of Church on the Rock in India. (Maybe you can’t see their faces because it’s so dark.) They will not be on TV or be famous in the media. Also, they will not publish any books and get a royalty or be praised from abroad. They are just “Lord’s servants” who serve faithfully although they are poor and persecuted. I’m proud of these faceless brave men. In Matthew, Jesus shared a parable about God’s kingdom. In the story, a master who came back from a journey shared joy with his servants. The master evaluated his servants who were faithful to small things. Many people think standing in the spotlight is to be used by God but the only standard for Christians is to be praised by the Lord, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Faceless brave men who follow God’s will are serving Jesus in the world even today.

You can do what other people can’t do.

In the Old Testament, God ordered to Moses to tell what God said to King Pharaoh in Egypt. God’s plan was to do His miracles through Moses and free Israelite from slavery. However, Moses insisted to God that he is not good at speaking so King Pharaoh wouldn’t listen to him. That means he wanted to say, “I can’t do it.”
Christians in these days say the same thing. For example, God tells you clearly to share the gospel in other country but you can’t speak the local language. Before you say, “I can’t do it”, please look at the works that God did to Moses.
When you think it is impossible, rely on great and powerful God.
Jesus said, “God can do the everything what people can’t do.”
Luke 18:27

Live in a pagan country

I visited Indonesia this autumn. Indonesia is the place where the world’s highest number of Muslim people lives. When I visited there, it was Ramadan so businesses, schools, shops were closed for more than a month. Reading a Koran and prayer were rang out 5 times a day from mosques, but from Saturday night to Sunday morning people pray loudly for a festival all night long. In the morning, when I looked outside from a hotel balcony, I found out 4 mosques were in one direction. I realized that I was in a pagan country.
How about Japan? It is natural to hear bells from a temple on 31st of Dec. Most people go to shrine on 1st of Jan. Our thought, culture, education, sense of value are different from the Bible. When God came to this world as a human being, how did He feel? To live in a pagan country for Christians is God’s will because Jesus loved us so much and He came to this world.
John 1:11~12

Although we are knocked down

This photo is a Sunday service at Church on the Rock in India. It was winter so people made a fire outside but people in the church were filled with joy and passion to God. This church had to be closed because of threatening and interruption several years ago. The one who threatened was a police man, and he was armed. India is a country which is not sure what will happen. Although people are persecuted, God won’t forsake them. Although Christians are knocked down, they won’t perish. God’s word said, “Don’t be afraid. I will be with you.”
Churches in Japan. Let’s stand with them for God’s kingdom.

A thing happened to my father

In Oct. 2009 Yomiuri newspaper conducted an opinion poll on how many books people read in a year. 53% of the people didn’t read any books. This percentage is getting higher with advancing age and 70% of people who are older than 70 years old didn’t read any books.
My father was born in 1926 and will become 84 years old in Jan. 2010. He wasn’t able to go to school because of financial problem and he never read any books except magazines. After he became a Christian, he read the Bible once a week at a church. Surprisingly, he started to read Christian books.
Although people read many books in youth, some of them stop reading books as they grow older. Even though our appearance withers, yet our spirit is being renewed day by day. I thank the grace of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 4:16

うちの会社はへぼじゃない

２００９年１２月９日に、自動車メーカーのスズキとドイツのフォルクスワーゲンが業務提携の記者会見を行いました。
これで、世界最大の自動車グループの誕生となります。
ちなみに、インドではスズキの車は一番多く売れていて、この業界の勝ち組です。

この記者会見で「スズキの社長は今後も日本人か？」という質問がありました。
その時のスズキ会長の返答が、
「ドイツから経営者を迎えなければならないほど、うちはへぼではない。」でした。

あるクリスチャン経営者と話した時に「企業の成功は人を育てること」と聞きました。
つまり、その会社が自動車メーカーであっても、ラーメン屋であっても、人が育たなくては、事業が立ち行かなくなります。

同じような質問をされた時に、今日の日本の教会は何と答えるでしょうか？
日本の牧師は、真面目で責任感が強く「良い人」が多いかと思います。
しかし、高齢になり引退してからでは、人を育てることは不可能です。

もし、「明日、天に召された時にあなたの群れはどうなりますか？」と聞かれた時、
「どこかから人材を迎えなければならないほど、うちの教会はへぼではない！」と聞けたなら、主の御名をたたえずにはいられません。

心を熱くするもの

２００９年１０月２６日に一人の格闘家が引退試合を行いました。
（ファンだとか、利害関係があるわけでもありません）
Ｋ－１ＭＡＸ(日本式キックボクシング)の武田幸三選手は、観ている者の心を熱くする第一人者でした。
決して恵まれた体格ではありませんが、極限まで鍛えられた肉体。
ＫＯするのか、されるかの激しい撃ち合い。
試合前には、家族あてに遺書を書いてリングに臨むそうです。
なぜ、それ程の情熱を持つのかは分かりませんが、その生き様は人々を感動させました。

海外の人からは、日本人はどこか冷めたふうに見られがちです。
また、日本人は海外宣教と言うと、教会の建物内で説教することと思う人もいます。
ある人は、「なぜ海外？日本にクリスチャンが少ないのに・・」と言い、またある人は、「衛生面は大丈夫なの？治安は？」と聞いてきます。

たとえ、この人生を１００歳、いや１２０歳まで生きたとしても、永遠から見るとそれは短いものです。
キリスト者は、神の恵みによって、永遠のいのちが与えられています。
イエス様の人類に対する情熱には、遠く及びませんが、完全燃焼する人生を送りたい。
それが、小さき者の願いです。

貧困と貧困率

最近、日本の貧困率が公表されました。
OECD加盟国中４位の高さだそうです。
確かに、日本は物価が高く、生活の豊かさを体感できない国です。
また、何らかの事情で生活に困窮している人がいるのも事実です。

しかし、それはあくまで世界で指折りの経済大国内でのことです。
貧困の定義は、労働をしても一日１米ドルをもらうことができないことです。
それに対し、厚生労働省が発表した貧困率とは、日本国内での年収の中間を基準として低所得者がどのくらいいるのかを表したものです。

２枚の写真は、インドの同じ通りで同じ時間に写したものです。

上の写真は、結婚式のパレードの様子です。
新郎は馬に乗り、バンドの音楽で行進して祝宴の会場に向かいます。

下の写真は、その様子を眺めている痩せこけた物乞いの人です。

インドのスラムには、捨てられた残飯しか食べたことのない人が多く存在します。
生活保護や保障によって、たばこやお酒を買い、携帯電話を持ち、ワクチンを受けて、子どもも養える国は、彼らの目にどう映るのでしょう？

本当の貧しさ・豊かさの基準は、富の多さ・少なさではありません。
聖書は、貧しいことが神からの罰とも、大富豪であることが罪とも書かれてはいません。

人の心には、本当の神様しか満たすことができない領域があります。

夢の中で語る神

クリスチャンになってから、なぜか夢をみることが少なくなりました。
１９９４年に見た夢のことです。

自動車を運転していたのですが、その前を大きなコンテナを積んだ車が走っていました。
その車は、とても遅い速度で時々止まったりもします。
急いでいたので、よほどクラクションを鳴らそうとも思ったのですが、何が原因なのか、この車の前を見てみました。
車の前には、十字架を背負ったキリストの後ろ姿が見えました。

日本で神様に仕えていると、強く感じることがあります。
なぜ、人々は決心を先送りするのか。なぜ、人は変えられることに抵抗するのか。
なぜ、教会の歩みがこれ程までに遅いのか。
はっきりしている事は、神は人の自由意思を奪うことはない。時は神の御手にある。
そして、神の愛は変わらないことです。

もちろん、全ての夢が神からのものではありません。
しかし、神は必要な時には、夢の中でも語ってくださる御方です。

美ら海の落し物

１１月に、人生で２回目の沖縄に行きました。
一泊だけの滞在でしたが、生まれも育ちも札幌の人間にとっては、その気候と海の青さは感動ものでした。
沖縄には、世界に誇る水族館「美ら海」があります。（ちゅらうみと発音します）
ジンベエザメやマンタなどが、巨大な水槽を悠々と泳ぐさまは見ごたえ十分です。

一番大きな水槽の前に、携帯電話の落し物があり係員に届けました。
平日にも関わらず、大勢の来場者がいたのですが、海洋生物に見とれて誰も落し物に気付かなかったようです。
引き続き館内を見物しながら、ふと、考えたことがあります。
この大勢の来館者たちは、じっと海洋生物を見つめています。
しかし、進化の過程にある中間種の生物が無いことに、気付く人はいないのでしょうか？

自分は見えていると思っていても、足元にある大切なものを見失うのが人間です。
人生は、木を見ても、森が理解できなければ、道に迷ってしまいます。
神様のみことばは、私たちの人生を確かなものに導いてくださいます。
あなたのみことばは、私の足のともしび、私の道の光です。

いのちの恩人

ロス山内は、ハワイHOPEチャペルから日本にやってきました。
最初は函館市に住み、英会話を教えながらキリストを伝えました。
その働きの結果、１９９０年に数人を洗礼まで導きました。

その内の一人が、６年後に僕の妻となったいづみでした。
現在C.O.Rの海外宣教に、彼女は欠かせない存在です。
つまり、いづみの永遠のいのちの恩人であり、C.O.Rにとっても恩人なのです。
キリスト者の働きは、時として目に見えていないところでも実を結びます。
この世界では、多くの人に知られなくても、神様は全てを見ておられます。

彼は、田無でHOPEチャペルウエスト東京を開拓しています。
そこにも、人生が変えられた人々が、イエス様に熱い賛美を捧げるため集まっています。

クレージー？クリスチャン

ジャレットとサラ・ブライアントは、若者にキリストを伝え弟子とする、グローバル・ユースネットの働きをしています。

夫のジャレットは、自他共に認めるクレージー・クリスチャンです。
牧師からは、あまり罪人と言いすぎるなと言われたそうです。
しかし、その忠告にもめげず（？）日本でもたくさんの若者に伝道しました。
また、日本の若者には何が受けるのか、日々ＴＶ番組から探求しているようです。

しかし、彼らはただのクレージーではありません。
若くして、自分たちの大きな家を売却して、宣教に人生を捧げたのです。
この二人の働きを通して、多くの若者の人生が変えられることでしょう。

慰めに満たされる

今年の７月４日に、神戸から来た辰巳玲子さんのフルートコンサートがありました。

静かな、そして、ぬくもりに満ちた調べに、参加者はなぜかほっとした様子でした。

彼女は、曲の合間に人生の証をしてくれました。

若くして母を、そして、父を天に見送ったこと。
末期がんの父との約束であったＣＤを出したこと。
最後に、「このＣＤは、眠れない夜を送っている人のために」と締めくくりました。

神様は、眠れない夜を送っている人に慰めを与えてくださいます。

私のうちで、思い煩いが増すときに、あなたの慰めが私のたましいを喜ばしてくださいますように。

無名の勇者たち

この写真は、暗くて人の顔が見えませんが、インドC.O.Rの牧師たちです。
彼らは、ＴＶに出演することも、キリスト教メディヤで有名になることもないでしょう。
また、本を出版して多額の印税をもらうことも、海外から賞賛されることもないでしょう。
彼らは、貧困や迫害の中で、ただ忠実に仕える「主のしもべ」なのです。
僕は、この無名の勇者たちを誇りに思っています。

マタイの福音書で、イエス様が天の御国をたとえて話されました。
そこで、帰って来た主人が、しもべと喜びを分かち合う様子が描かれています。
主人は、わずかな物に忠実だったことを評価しています。

多くの人は、人前でスポットライトを浴びることが、神様に用いられていると思ってしまいます。
しかし、キリスト者にとってただ一つの基準は、帰って来た主から「よくやった。良い忠実なしもべだ。」と喜ばれることではないでしょうか。
神のみこころを行う、無名の勇者たちが、今日も世界中でキリストに仕えているのです。

人にはできないことが

写真は、ライフチャペルインターナショナルの亮(りょう)君です。彼は、メッセージを日本語から英語へ通訳する奉仕をしています。

旧約聖書のなかで、神がモーセに、エジプトの王パロに告げるように命じられます。
神の御計画は、モーセを用いて奇跡を行い、イスラエルの民を奴隷から解放することでした。
しかし、モーセは、自分は口べたであり、パロに聞いてもらえないと訴えます。
つまり、「自分にはできません」と言いたかったのです。

現代に生きるクリスチャンも、同じようなことを口にします。
たとえば、神があなたに海外で福音を伝えるように明確に語ったとします。
しかし、あなたには現地の言葉が話せません。
そこで、「私にはできません」とつぶやく前に、神がモーセに何をしたのか結果を見てください。
不可能な場面に出会ったその時に、偉大な力ある神に信頼しましょう。
イエスは言われた。「人にはできないことが、神にはできるのです。」

異教の地に生きる

今年の秋に、インドネシアを訪れました。
インドネシアは、世界最多のイスラム教徒が住む国です。
ちょうど、ラマダンの月にあたり、一か月以上、仕事も学校も、路面店もお休みでした。
ここでは、モスクから一日５回コーランの朗読と祈りが大音量で鳴り響きます。
しかし、滞在中の土曜夜から日曜朝まで祭りのために、一晩中この大音量が鳴りやみませんでした。

朝になって、ホテルのバルコニーから見てみると一方向だけで４つのモスクがあります。
自分が、異教の国にいることを強く実感しました。

冷静に考えてみると、日本はどうでしょうか？
年末にはお寺の鐘がなるのはあたりまえのことです。年始には、神社に大勢の人が向かいます。
人の思想、文化、教育、習慣、価値観、どれをとっても聖書とは異なる国です。
神が人となってこの世界に来られた時、どのように感じられたのでしょう。
今日、キリスト者が異教の地に生きることは神のみこころなのです。
なぜなら、イエス様は全ての人類を愛するが故に、この地に来られたからです。

たとえ倒されても

この写真は、インドC.O.Rの礼拝の様子です。
外では、焚火がたかれる冬にも関わらず、（１０月下旬）人々の喜びと情熱がその場に満ちています。

ここは、数年前に、脅しと妨害によって閉鎖されていました。
相手は、警察官で銃を持っていますし、インドは何が起こるか分からない国です。

たとえ迫害が起きても、神は見捨てることがありません。
たとえ倒されたように見えても、キリスト者は滅びることがありません。

聖書の神は「恐れるな。わたしはあなたとともにいる。」と語ってくださる御方です。
日本の教会のみなさん、私たちも彼らと一緒に、神の国のために立ち上がりましょう。

What is the property of country?

Singapore is a new country which attained independence as a republic in 1965. The national land is a little bigger than Awaji-island in Hyogo prefecture and its population is 4 million 800 thousands. This country doesn’t have a long history and it has limited natural resources (they buy water from Malaysia.) but how had it developed? Other countries valuate Singapore for low crime rate, high academic and medical standard, and economic power. This is the result that “The property of county is people”. This country is called “Israel of South East Asia” because it’s surrounded by Muslim countries. In truth, 15% of Singaporean is Christian, not Jews. What is the property of church? That’s not a long history, tradition, a big building or economic power but God’s nation. Powerful God is building up God’s kingdom with His beloved people.

Worship with all of our strength

It was in India in 2005. Christians in a village worshiped God endlessly with all their strength. Their worship is always powerful but it was like a rumbling of the earth this time. During these days 3 pastors in India were murdered consecutively. The well-planned and brutal murders were on news. One of Japanese Christians asked them whether they know the murder cases or not. An Indian pastor answered, “Yes. I know. Maybe next is me.” The Japanese lost his word for an answer. The Indian pastor also said, “that’s why we worship God powerfully because today might be the last.” He answered with starry eyes without wiping away his sweat. What is a motive for you to worship God? Is it because your prayer was answered? Because it’s Sunday? Because it’s your duty? The answer is No. The reason is our Lord Jesus who was on the cross for our sins is worthy to receive our worship and glory.

Where is the wing of Japan?

Recently, an issue of rebuilding JAL is reported on the news. JAL is the company of National Flag Carrier, which is to say the wing of Japan. Mission team from Hawaii use JAL all the time. Why did the wing of Japan lose its speed? There are some reasons, but it’s clear for the company to weaken without adapting to the changing social needs. We need speed for company’s assessment of the situation and innovative changes. What should churches in Japan learn from this lesson? Everything in a church such as board meeting, majority vote at a conference, and revision of a rule takes more time than this society. Is this just a weakness in a church all through the ages? How about the primary church? On the Pentecost 120 people were praying and 3000 people were added. How did they find a place to worship? Did they have a time to have a board meeting or do an election? It comes near to stating the obvious that disciples changed their thinking completely. Church has to ask the guide of the Holy Spirit in the complicated and fast present day.

Disaster, or?

Recently, many disasters are reported on the news. The worst flood in the last 100 years occurred in South India. In the province of Andra Pradesh, many villages went under the water and more than 1 million people had to escape the area. In Genesis, God created the first human being and said “tend and keep the earth and animals”. The original language of “control” means “bring order”. He didn’t say break “harm the ozone layer or cause global warming”. In South India many people are afraid of contagious disease after the flood. Poor people or dalite people are the one who will be abandoned in this sort of problem. Some dalite people (untouchable people) said “the reason why we can’t ensure the human right is that upper class people is afraid of losing their status”. Today it’s impossible for us to control the nature. Also, it’s impossible for us to have the same status and same life but it’s nothing to have fear or shift in responsibility to God. What we can do is to go back to God and follow Him, which is to love our neighbors.

The house of prayer

I went to Yoichi town with a mission team from Hawaii and visited the Wada family on 1st of Oct. They are Christian family and moved there from Saitama prefecture in 2005 and started Yoichi Canan farm. The mission team from Hawaii enjoyed beautiful view from the farm, fresh air, and sweet mini tomatoes. Every week they have a prayer meeting and when we visited them, 16 people prayed to God together. The house of prayer which is accepted by God is planted in this place.

Isaiah 56:7 For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.

God's help

More than 150,000 houses were destroyed because of the earthquake in Sumatra, Indonesia on 1st of Oct. I saw the news that one of the victims was interviewed 1 week after the earthquake. The victims were digging in the rubble and building a hut in the heat exceeding 30 degrees. He said, “a support from Government is vagabond. We don’t want our children to stay in a tent in rainy season. There is no hope in this country.” The interviewer asked if the earthquake occurred again, the hut might be destroyed again. He answered “I’ll build it again. I don’t want the earthquake to beat me.” Merciful God is the one who gives us unchangeable hope and help to start a new life. Christians will be changed to live with faith in our helper from dependence on broken reed.

父親に起きたこと

今年１０月、読売新聞社が一カ月に本を読まなかった人の世論調査を行いました。
結果は５３％の人が、本を読まなかったそうです。
この割合は、年齢が高くなると増えていき、７０歳以上はなんと７０％の人が本を読まないと答えました。

父親は、大正１５年生まれで、来年１月には８４歳になります。
当時の事情から、学校にはあまり通えず、若い頃から雑誌や週刊誌以外は読んだことがなく、クリスチャンになってからは、週一回の礼拝で聖書を読むだけでした。

その父親が、この１０月から信仰に関する本を読み始めたのです。
通常、若い時には読書家であっても、年をとるごとに徐々に活字離れしていくものです。
しかし、イエスキリストを信じる者は、たとい外なる人は衰えても、内なる人は日々新しくされるのです。　
主の恵みに感謝を捧げます。

国の財産とは？

シンガポールは、１９６５年共和国として独立した、新しい国と言えます。
この国の面積は、兵庫県・淡路島よりやや大きく、人口は約４８０万人です。
歴史が浅く、小さな国土の島国というハンディ（水資源に乏しく、隣国マレーシアから購入）を持つこの国は、どのようにして発展したのでしょうか？

諸外国からは、治安が良く、教育・医療水準が高く、経済力もあると評価されています。
これは、「人こそが国の財産である」と考える政策の結果です。
そして、この国は「東南アジアのイスラエル」とも呼ばれています。（周囲がイスラム教徒の多い国に囲まれているため）
実際には、ユダヤ人ではなく、クリスチャン人口が約１５％です。

では、教会の財産とは何でしょうか？
それは、長い歴史と伝統でも、大きな建物や経済力でもなく、神の国の民なのです。
偉大な力ある神は、愛する人々とともに、神の国を建て上げるのです。

力の限り賛美する

２００５年インドでのことです。
村の教会では、終わることのない神への賛美が捧げられていました。
彼らの賛美は、いつも力強いのですが、この日は地響きのようでした。

この頃、インドの３人の牧師が連続して殺される事件がありました。
計画的な卑劣で残忍なその手口が、現地の新聞で報道されました。

一人の日本人が、彼らに「このニュースを知っているのか？」と尋ねました。
あるインド人牧師はこう答えました。
「ああ、知っているよ。今度は自分の番かもね。」
日本人は、その返答に言葉を失いました。
インド人は続けて、
「だから、今日が最後になっても良いように、力の限り主イエスを賛美するんだ！」
額に流れる汗を、ぬぐおうともせず、目を輝かせてこう言ったのです。

あなたが、賛美を捧げる動機は何でしょうか？
祈りが答えられたから、日曜日だから、それとも義務感からでしょうか。
いいえ、私たちの罪のためにほふられた主イエスは、賛美と栄光を受けるにふさわしい救い主だからです。

日本の翼はどこへ

最近、ニュースで日本航空の再建問題が取り上げられています。
JALと言えば、ナショナルフラッグキャリア、つまり日本の翼です。
日本に宣教に来るハワイチームも、好んでJALを利用します。

なぜ、日本の翼は失速してしまったのでしょうか？
様々な要因はあると思いますが、どのような企業でも、時代の変化に対応できなければ衰退するのは明白です。状況判断と社内の変革には、迅速さが要求されます。

この教訓から、教会は何を学ぶべきでしょうか？
役員会開催、総会での多数決、教会規則の見直し、どの側面をとっても目で見える社会より時間がかかることばかりです。
これは、どの時代でも変わらない教会の弱点なのでしょうか？
初代教会はどうだったのでしょう？
１２０名の祈りからペンテコステの日を境に、一気に３０００人が増し加わりました。
礼拝する場所は、どうしたのでしょう。
選挙は、役員会を行う時間はあったのでしょうか。
弟子たちは、今までの考えを一新させられたことは言うまでもありません。
より複雑で、流れの速い現代こそ、教会は聖霊の導きを求める必要があります。

Sow a small seed

How did God use the mission team from Hawaii in Sapporo? A Hula team started. A new interpreter started to serve the Lord. New friends joined the Hawaiian concert. The biggest thing is that the mission team left a big “Aloha” in Sapporo. We can tell, how the Savior loves Japan through them. A small seed was sowed so we are expecting how big the seed grows.

To young people I become as young man

I would like to introduce Pastor Scott who is the leader of a mission team from Hawaii. When I arrived at his place from the airport, two young people were sleeping at his living room. Without a TV game, a card game, and BBQ, his mini church won’t exist. His ministry is to enjoy activities. They watch American football together and recently he joined HCKB Boot Camp. At first, it looks like they are just having fun, but he surely guides young people to church. Young people these days, need a place where they are accepted for who they are, true friendship, and healthy entertainment. Pastor Scott is evangelizing young people in a unique way.

A mission team from Hawaii

A mission team came to Sapporo from Hawaii again this year. They are God’s blessing and a big encouragement to our church. It’s difficult to see a result during a short mission. However, this team always gives us good fruits. What is their secret? They are not professional mission team and also are not trained. They are just pursuing, what Japanese people need, so they don’t do whatever they had prepared, but they make a program with us before they come here. Also, they really like Sapporo. They like the weather, the food, and to make many friends here. They are different from religious evangelists. They are just friends who practice Christ’s love. That’s Hawaii team.
John 15:16

Aloha Spirit

A warm heart wrapping around everything and friendly feeling are called Aloha Spirit. Aloha means love, sharing, friendliness, and a consistent word. Whenever I go to Hawaii, I feel calm and sweet wind. I also feel the same wind from people in Hawaii. A mission team from Hawaii gives us Aloha Spirit of Christians.

Although everything was lost

A big typhoon No. 16 hits Philippines. Dei, a missionary in our church, received an international call the next day after the typhoon. Her hometown is Philippines. The call was from her mother and she said, “everything was lost because of the flood.” Dei was shocked by what mom said but said to her weeping mother, “mom, don’t cry. Although everything was lost, you are alive. God will give you everything again.” What her mother said was a fact but what Dei said was the truth. You might experience a disaster that bereaves everything from you. However, if you have life given by our Creator God, you can start all over again because whoever finds me finds life, and obtains favor from the Lord.

Angry men

It happened in India. It was late at night when I heard some noise from the outside. In India the sound of the horn and noise are endless for 24 hours, but this time it sounded differently. I watched outside from my hotel room. Around 20 people were yelling at each other in the parking lot of the hotel. I saw fights many times but this fight didn’t cease after 10 or 20 min. They were getting hot. I watched outside again and one big man was holding a stick and menacing other group. One of the security guards jumped on him. (I don’t know which side he is on.) That was the sign and everyone wrestled wildly. Hotel employees took off their jackets and joined the fight. After that, chefs joined too, in their white uniform. Soon the parking lot was filled with fighting people. They didn’t care who they’re fighting for. The police arrived and people unharnessed adrenaline were still fighting. Finally, the fight was ceased so when I checked the time, it took for 1 hour and a half, since I started watching outside. I’ve never seen such anger in Japan. I thought, whether it’s possible for Japanese people to keep getting angry for a long time or not. I still don’t know why they started fighting but in the Bible it says “for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” It is unavoidable to have anger but in Ephesians the Bible warns us “Be angry, and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath.”
People have anger because of their egocentricity. Also, people keep the anger so lovingly without dealing with it properly. On the other hand, God’s anger directs at sins, unrighteousness, and hypocrisy. God hates sins but has mercy on people who are slaves of sins because the Lord, Jesus Christ, was on the cross to forgive our sins, not to judge us. Let us be like Jesus Christ.

Christian Home

When church members and I were invited at home of Mr. Kibayashi, who is serving the Lord as a Bible teacher at Church on the Rock Sapporo, Mr. and Mrs. Kibayashi prepared a dinner for us. This is the generation of low birthrate and longevity but they have 6 children. They welcomed and entertained us with their talents. One of them showed us oil paintings of a scene from the Bible and another one played the violin which is made by his brother. We had a good time with the family. The youngest son, Rentaro, filled with energy, made a great effort when he played “Wii”. There are many broken families these days but we spent a wonderful time with a Christian family. Whether we are successful in a society or pretend to be religious people. A happy and vigorous family is God’s blessing.

天災? それとも

最近、自然災害のニュースが多くなりました。
南インドでは、過去１００年間で最悪の洪水となりました。（ある人は過去最大と言います）
アンドラプラデシュ州では、多くの村が水没し、１００万人以上の人に避難する必要が起きました。

創世記には、神が最初の人を創造している場面があります。
そして、「地を従えよ」「生き物を支配せよ」と仰せられました。
この「従えよ」「支配せよ」の原語は、秩序をもたらしなさいの意味です。
「オゾン層を壊しなさい、地球を温暖化しなさい」とは仰せられませんでした。

現地では洪水後に、伝染病の蔓延が恐れられています。
そのような事態に見捨てられるのは、貧困層や被差別民です。
ある、ダリット（不可触民）は語ります。「私たちが人権を持てないのは、特権階級の人が自分の立場を失うことを、恐れているのが原因なのです」

今日、人間は自然を従えることが不可能となりました。
また、誰もが同じ立場で同じ人生もありえません。しかし、恐れることや神に人類の責任を転換することは、何の益もありません。
私たちにできることは、神に立ち帰ることと、神に従うこと、すなわち隣人を愛することです。

祈りの家

１０月１日に、ハワイチームと余市町に行き、以前から親交のある和田さん宅を訪ねました。　和田さん家族はクリスチャンホームで、２００５年に埼玉から移住し、余市カナン農場を新規就農しました。　
小高い農場から見える絶景と、清らかな空気、新鮮なミニトマトの甘さにハワイチームは大満足でした。　　　　　　　
家庭では毎週祈りが捧げられており、この日は１６名で主を礼拝しました。この地にも、神に受け入れられる祈りの家が植えられているのです。

神の助け

１０月１日に発生したインドネシア・スマトラ沖地震で、１５万戸以上の民家が倒壊しました。
発生から１週間後の被災者へのインタビューを見ました。
彼らは瓦礫を掘り起こし、連日３０度を超えるさなかで、小屋を建てる作業を行います。
「政府の支援は、全くあてにはならない。子どもたちが、雨季をテントで過ごすのを避けたいだけだ。この国には何の希望もない。」
また地震が来たら、倒壊するのでは？との問いかけには、「その時には、また立て直すだけさ。地震に負けたくないからね。」と答えました。

恵み深い神は、新しい人生を始めるために、本当に必要な助けと変わることがない希望を与えて下さる御方です。
キリスト者は、頼りにならないものへの依存から、助け主を信仰する生き方へと変えられていくのです。

小さな種を蒔く

神様がハワイチームをどのように用いられたのでしょうか？　　　　　　　　　新しく教会のフラチームが始まりました。
新しい通訳者が奉仕をしました。新しい友人・同僚が集まりました。
そして、ハワイの大らかさと笑顔を残してくれました。
救い主がどれほど日本を愛しているかを知ることができました。
小さな種として蒔かれて、どれほど大きく成長するのか、期待が心に膨らみます。

若者には若者のように

ハワイチームを率いるスコット牧師を紹介します。
初めて彼の家に泊まった時のことです。
空港から彼の家に到着すると、二人の若者が居間で寝ていました。　　　　スコットの家でのミニチャーチには、TVゲーム、トランプ、バーベキューが欠かせません。　　彼のミニストリーは、とにかく楽しむアクティビティをすることです。　みんなでアメリカンフットボールを観戦したり、最近はブートキャンプ（フィットネス）も始まりました。一見すると、ただ毎日、遊んでいるだけに見えますが、着実に若者を教会に導いています。

現代の若者は、ありのままで受け入れられる場所と本物の友情、健全な楽しみを必要としています。スコット牧師は、今日もユニークな方法で、若者に伝道しているのです。
