インドの結婚事情

インドに滞在している時には、ほぼ毎日、カルチャー・ショックの連続です。
まず、新聞を見ると、結婚相手の募集広告がぎっしりと並んでいることに驚かされます。

この国では、自由恋愛による結婚は、ごくまれであり、親が決めるか、お見合いが主流となります。（どちらにしても親の介入は避けられません）

広告の内容は、年齢、学歴、年収、肌の色、親の職業、食事（菜食主義者か否か）アピールポイントなどが掲載されています。
また、広告欄には分類があり、「カースト」を初め、「障害の有無」「離婚経験者」「未亡人」などに分かれています。

良いところも幾つかあり、親の意見を大切にすることや、ある種の倫理観（結婚前には恋愛関係にならない）などは見習うべき点でしょう。
しかし、「嫌いな人と結婚させられる」「異なるカーストでは結婚できない」「娘の持参金（ダウリー）のため家や農地を売り、借金まで抱える」など、この国ならではの問題もあります。

結果として、みなしごや孤児の多さ、離婚の多発（結婚破棄される女性）、ダウリー頼みで仕事も責任も負わない男性の蔓延等、社会問題（あくまで日本人の考え）が多発しています。

結婚しなければ、相手を本当に理解できないことは万国共通です。

それだけに、決断する時には、自分自身の準備はもちろん、神様のみこころを求めることが大切です。
全てを知っている創造主は、一人一人に最善の計画を持っています。
そして、真の結婚は当事者だけではなく、親族や神の家族を含めた、人生の全てに祝福をもたらすものなのです。

箴言　３１章１０～１１節

A moment at the airport lounge

JAL lounge for domestic flight at the Haneda airport was renewed. It was bigger than before and has many different chairs. A moment at the airport lounge is important for businessmen. They prepare for the next business trip with their computer or enjoy with drinks and snacks. No matter how busy they are, if they have a time and a place to reset themselves, they have a capacity.

We can say the same thing in our lives. Japanese people have generally good patience but many people may not be good at eliminating fatigue in a day or refreshing themselves. Whenever Christians feel stressed or pressured or get tired, we can take rest in the presence of Jesus. Not only our spirit, soul, and body are released from daily life but also new power is given to us. Isn’t it a wonderful experience?

Was Christ casted out from a church?

Neil Thompson has been visiting many churches dressed like Jesus Christ for the last 22 years in Missouri. According to news, this overtly religious man went to a church as usual but a deacon asked him to sit on a corridor and didn’t let him enter the cathedral of St. Paul Lutheran church. When Thompson refuted, “aren’t you rude? This is not the proper attitude to me.”, he was called for the police and vacated. In the 11th of Nov. issue of MSN News of Japan posted this article with his photo. I don’t know the detail about this happening but I thought this is thought-provoking news for churches today.

A church is a place where people get together through the name of Christ, Christ is the head and it is built on the rock of salvation but people are easy to be bound by visible things, self-centered thinking, tradition, or form.

When we see Jews in the Bible, it is clear that people are religious living creatures. Of course, a church is not a building but a congregation of Christians which are people but we have to know that to preference for people instead of Christ or to bring a religion or secularism into a church is totally different from the congregation of Christians. It’s not a kingdom without a King. In the same way, if Christ is not the head, it’s not a church.

In Revelation, it says Jesus Christ stands at the door and knocks in the last days. Look unto the one who is the author and finisher of our faith and follow Him just like our head and body are one. This is the truth which today’s churches shouldn’t lose amid being required complexity, diversity, and information.

The sun also rises.

This photo is the rising sun in Singapore. There is not a single day that the sun doesn’t set. There is no one who doesn’t experience trials or problems in his life and there is not a single day that the sun doesn’t rise. When you fall into difficulties, rely on God. The Lord definitely shines light into your life.

The sun is setting into urban canyon. It is a moment which is enveloped in the gathering bloom. There is not a single day which the sun doesn’t set. In the same way, we experience darkness in our lives but the thing we shouldn’t forget is God is the one who works in the darkness.

異端・カルトセミナー ｉｎ 金沢

１１月１９、２０日の二日間に渡り、金沢で異端とカルトのセミナーが行われました。
会場を提供してくれた金沢こころクリニック付属チャペルには、本当に感謝しています。

このテーマは、クリスチャンにとって決して喜ばしいものではありませんし、多くの教会は、自分たちとは無関係と考える傾向にあります。

金沢では、珍しい内容のセミナーでしたが、参加者の反応はとても良く、確かな手ごたえがありました。

異端やカルトの経験を通して、最終的に教会に導かれた人たちも参加していました。
妹をカルトから救出し、自分もクリスチャンとなった女性や、脱会後に牧師夫人となった証などもありました。
また、この問題に対して、地域のために立ち上がる決心をした人たちも起こされ、素晴らしい時となりました。

どのような働きであっても、最初は小さな一歩から始まるのです。
主は金沢を愛しておられ、また、異端やカルトの人々を憐れんで下さっています。

テモテへの手紙　第二　４章２節～４節

マリーナ・ベイ・サンズ

この模型は、シンガポールで一番新しいホテルのサンズです。
ツイン・タワーはよく聞きますが、サンズはトリプル・タワー！？なのです。
三つの塔は、５７階の船の形をした最上階で繋がっています。
この船は、何と！プールとレストランになっています。

三は、神を表す数字です。
この模型を前に、ノアの箱舟を思い浮かべていました。

全世界を覆う大洪水の中、箱舟は水の上を浮かんでいました。
人の目には、水面に浮かんでいるように見えたことでしょう。
しかし、本当は唯一の神（父・子・聖霊）が箱舟を覆い、守っていたのです。

僕たちクリスチャンも、この時代に沈むことがないように、目に見えない神の御手に守られているのです。

創世記　７章１節

空港ラウンジでのひととき

羽田空港の国内線ＪＡＬラウンジが新しくなりました。
以前よりも広くなり、椅子の種類も増えました。

ビジネスマンにとって、空港ラウンジで過ごすひとときは大切なものです。
次の出張に備えて、ノートＰＣに向かったり、ホッと一息ついて飲み物やスナックを楽しむひととき。

どんなに、あわただしいスケジュールがあっても、リセットできる時間と場所があれば、心に余裕が生まれるものです。

これは、人生にも同じことが言えます。
日本人は、平均して我慢強い国民です。
しかし、疲れをその日の内に癒すことや、リフレッシュするのが苦手な人が多いのではないでしょうか？

キリスト者は、ストレスやプレッシャーを感じたり、疲れた時には、いつでもイエス様のもとで休むことができます。

それは、霊・たましい・からだが日常から解放されるだけではなく、新たな力が与えられる素晴らしい体験なのです。

マタイの福音書１１章２８節

Boys, be ambitious!

This photo was taken at Hitsujigaoka observatory in Sapporo while a mission team from Hawaii was in Japan. “Boys, be ambitious!” is a word of wisdom from Dr. Clark, William Smith. He was invited as the first head of teachers, an actual president, of Sapporo Agricultural College (now Hokkaido University) by a treaty between Japan and America. At first, he was told to prohibit teaching the Bible by the administrator at that time. However, he taught the Bible in a Sunday school without making compromises. Also, he said that it is impossible to raise people with rules or crackdowns and taught students to be gentlemen.

What kind of ambition did he expect from young people there? The life of students who signed on the commitment of Christians, Mr. Nitobe, Inazo who became a Secretary General of the United Nations, and Mr. Miyabe, Kingo who became a representative botanist of Japan shows us Dr. Clark’s expectation.

* Sadly to say, current Hokkaido University is a primary launch pad of many cult groups. Many years ago the university made a plan to hold a lecture meeting of Mr. Asahawa, Shoko who was a founder of Aum Shinrikyo. On the other hand, the university prohibited all the political and religious activities inside the school festival last year. (This rule conflicts with basic civil liberties and later on the university withdrew this rule after the school festival.) As a result, it is puzzling phenomenon that people who follow rules are regulated but cult groups or social organizations can do anything.

Hope Chapel, God’s house

Hope Chapel is a church in Kaneohe, Hawaii. They love Japanese people and do wonderful ministry. Most of missionaries from the church come to Japan without knowing Japanese language and work and start a mini church. Right now, some churches are planted in Kanto, Kansai, and Okinawa. Pastor Ralph Moore who is the founder, had been teaching that the important thing for a church is not the form but the function as the body of Christ.

Church is not a religion but God’s house or God’s family. The one who governs the place where hope is filled is Jesus who is the high priest.

The thing happened to my father, Part 2

My father caught a cold on 17th of Oct. and couldn’t attend Sunday service. The next day,while I was on a subway, I had a phone call from my mother. She told me my father has a fever and can’t stop shivering. I went home and saw him wearing heavy layers of clothes and wrapped with a futon and a blanket. Although a heater was on, he was shivering. He refused to go to the hospital. After I talked to him, I asked him to pray to Jesus and laid my hand on him. All he could do was to say “Amen”.

Honestly, I'm prepared for the worst situation. My father is 84 years old and had a big surgery twice. Even after he accepted Jesus, whenever he is sick, he went to a hospital right away. It was the first time that he to rely only on Jesus and ask Him for healing. A few minutes later, his shiver stopped and I heard him breathing normally while sleeping. It was not the normal temperature but his fever went down in the evening and I put a refrigerant on his forehead. He ate ice cream after dinner. He was healed by Jesus.

The Lord answered his first agonized prayer. I took the word of Jesus, if you have faith like a mustard seed, to my heart.

A faithful servant in India

Pastor Jacob returned to heaven with glory at 11:00p.m. on 4th of Oct., 2010. I feel so sad because I can’t see him for a while but I can see him in heaven again in the future.
He was manly as a Christian.
He was a patriarch of Church on the Rock, India.
He kept sowing seeds in his area.
He loved his family from his heart.
He was loved by his co-workers, family, and church members.
His prayer was so powerful that evil spirits was shaking.
He served and loved the Lord, Jesus, from his heart.
Some of my teaching was the something that he had never heard of. He was moderately conservative and it was difficult for him to shake down new things but he changed himself, raised many new pastors, and planted new churches in different areas. The fruits that Pastor Jacob left on this world will grow bigger and bigger. Jesus must have welcomed him and said, “You did good. You are a faithful servant.” I’m proud that I had served the Lord with Pastor Jacob for a few years on this world.

Exclusion order and God’s grace

Paris Hilton who is famous in Japan and other countries was refused entry after 6 hours immigration clearance at Narita airport and went back to America on 21st of Sep. She is a celebrity. At the same time, she is on a gossip magazine all the time. Before she came to Japan, she was arrested due to a possession of cocaine. After she was refused entry at Narita, the immigration office in Japan had good responses from people in other countries, such as “We respect Japan because they didn’t make an exception in favor of a big name.”, “Good work, Japan.”, and so on. Japanese people who heard this news saw it natural result. It is insane that although she had committed a sin, she thought she can get into Japan.

Let’s replace this happening to God’s Kingdom (heaven)? Many people who don’t know God are not convinced, that all the people can’t enter God’s Kingdom. Before we go abroad, we buy tickets and go to an airport. In addition, a criminal is refused entry. God paid a price already, forgives our sins and welcomes us to God’s Kingdom only believing. This is God’s love and grace. The one who can’t do anything for forgiveness is forgiven by the Lord’s grace and the one who deserves exclusion is welcomed with joy and blessing. What a wonderful thing that our names are written in heaven!

キリストが教会から追い出された？

ミズーリ州の二―ル・トンプソン氏は、過去２２年に渡り、イエス・キリストの格好で地域の教会を回っていました。
ニュースの内容によると、この信仰心の厚い男性は、いつものように教会に行ったのですが、セントポール・ルーテルズ教会では、助祭から聖堂に入らずに廊下に座るように指示されました。
「君、無礼じゃないか。私に対して正しい接し方ではないぞ」と反論すると、警察に通報され、退去させられたそうです。
１１月１１日のＭＳＮジャパンでは、写真入りでこのニュースが掲載されていました。

詳細は分かりませんが、現代の教会にとって、ある意味で考えさせられる記事だと思いました。

教会は、キリストがかしらであり、キリストの名によって集まるところであり、救いの岩の上に建てられるものです。

しかし、人とは、いつも目に見える何か、人中心の考え、伝統や形式等にとらわれやすい性質を持っています。
聖書にあるユダヤ人を見る時に、人間は宗教的な生き物であることが鮮明に描かれています。

もちろん、教会は建物ではなくキリスト者（つまり人）の共同体です。
しかし、キリスト以上に人間を優先することや、宗教、世俗主義を取り入れることとは、全く異質であることを知らなければなりません。

王が治めなければ、王国とは言えません。
同じように、キリストがかしらでなければ、教会とは言えません。
黙示録では、終わりの時代にイエスキリストが戸の外に立ってたたくと書かれています。

信仰の創始者であり、完成者であるこの御方を見上げて、かしらと肢体が一体であるように従っていくこと。
これこそが、複雑かつ多様性が要求され、様々な情報が渦巻く、現代における教会が見失ってはならない真理なのです。

ヨハネの福音書　１７章２１節

太陽はまた昇る

この写真はシンガポールの朝日です。

太陽が沈まない日はありません。
誰もが、その人生で暗闇に包まれるような試練や問題を体験するでしょう。

しかし、太陽が昇らない日も、また、ありません。
出口が見えないような困難に陥っても、神様に信頼してください。
必ず、主があなたの人生に光を照らしてくださるからです。

マラキ書　４章２節

シンガポールの夕日

高層ビルの谷間に沈もうとする太陽。
今、まさに闇に包まれようとする瞬間です。

太陽が沈まない日はありません。
同じように人生でも、暗闇の中を体験します。

しかし、忘れてはならないのは、神様は闇の中でも働かれる御方だということです。

ボーイズ・ビー・アンビシャス

写真は、ハワイチーム滞在中に、羊が丘展望台を訪れた時のものです。

Ｗ・スミス・クラーク博士が語った「ボーイズ・ビー・アンビシャス」は「青年よ、大志を抱け」と訳された名言です。
彼は、日本政府との協定により、札幌農学校（＊現在の北海道大学）の初代教頭（実際の学長）として、北海道開拓を担うために招かれました。

最初に、当時の長官から「国禁」として聖書を教えることを禁止されました。
しかし、彼は妥協せずに、毎週、日曜学校を開き、聖書を伝えました。
また、用意されていた数々の規則に対して、「規則や取り締まりで人を育てることはできない」と言い、学生には「紳士であれ」と教えました。

では、クリスチャンであった彼は、若者たちにどのような大志を望んでいたのでしょうか？

それは、イエスを信ずる者の誓約に署名した学生たち、後の国連事務次長となった新渡戸稲造、日本を代表する植物学者の宮部金吾らの人生が証明してくれたのです。

＊残念ながら、現在の同大学は、多くのカルト集団の活動拠点となっています。
オウム真理教の教祖だった当時の麻原彰晃の講演を企画したかと思えば、逆に、昨年の北大祭では政治・宗教活動に関わる全てを禁止しました。（これは、基本的人権に抵触する問題で、終了後に撤回）
結果として、社会ルールを守る人々が規制され、正体を隠したカルトや思想・社会活動団体だけが活動できるという不可解な状況を作り上げています。
