The secret of Teddy Bear
There was an exhibition of stuffed animals made by Steiff in Rokko Island, Kobe. I found out the secret why Teddy Bear captivates people beyond generations and borders.
Margarete Steiff was born in 1847 and she had polio when she was 18-month old so she had to use a wheel chair all her life. In 1877, she started a business of felt shop with her sisters. In 1880, she made an elephant shaped needle stick as a gift and it became popular so she established Steiff Co. In 1903, a stuffed bear was displayed at a banquet of President Roosevelt, it was called “Teddy Bear”, and it became a big thing.
Margarete who was lame in both legs and right hand made a stuffed bear which can move its hands and legs. Her thought is concealed in her words below.
“Talk to him, lay your cheek against his, and hug him. When children are happy and sad, stuffed animals are always with them. That’s why I want to give the best to children.”
Her thought gives love to people’s heart.
Then, what a wonderful thing our Father in Heaven who is the origin of love gives us.
